Online Invoice Links

How online invoice links work

An online invoice link is a shareable URL that lets a customer open an invoice in a browser. Share only the information the customer needs and treat the link as accessible to anyone who receives it.

Last updated September 19, 2026

A link such as onlineinvoicestudio.com/i/INV-2026-001 identifies a specific invoice page. It can be easier for a customer to open on a phone than an attachment, and it can provide a current view when the invoice is updated.

  1. Create the invoice and generate an invoice ID.
  2. Share the invoice link with the customer.
  3. The customer opens the invoice and reviews the amount, due date, and payment instructions.
  4. The customer pays through the agreed payment method.
  5. Payment is confirmed and the invoice status changes to paid, automatically or manually according to the payment workflow.

What customers can see

A customer should see the invoice number, seller and customer details included on the invoice, line items, totals, notes, due date, payment instructions, status, and download action. Avoid adding private business data that is not needed for billing.

Privacy and updates

Do not put passwords, bank credentials, private notes, or unrelated customer data in a public invoice. When an invoice is updated, the link may show the current version; retain a copy of material versions and notify the customer about corrections when appropriate.
